Jason Nicholas Anthony was born in 1991 in Bangkok, Thailand. He was introduced to piano and music theory at an early age, but his real interest in music was sparked in 2004, when he began classical guitar lessons with Ajarn Somwang Woraprasprue. Following the Trinity Guildhall’s syllabus, Jason passed the music examinations with distinction, and in two consecutive years was ranked 2nd and then 1st in the nation for the 4th and 5th grade, respectively. He completed the entire program in 2010. After graduating from NIVA International School in Thailand, Jason began his undergraduate studies at La Sierra University. During his college years, Jason has grown tremendously as a flutist under the fine tutelage of Dr. Martin Glicklich. In the summer of 2012, Jason had the privilege to perform at Disney Concert Hall with the La Sierra University Orchestra. He had received coaching in a master class led by world-renowned flutist, Jim Walker, in 2013. In 2014, he had the honor of winning the 2nd place in the Concerto Competition, was named Outstanding Performer of the Year and received the Presidential Award for Undergraduate Outstanding Student. As a composer, Jason has been writing and arranging music whenever time permits and inspiration arises. Unfortunately, opportunities for the performance of these musical works were seldom found in Thailand. Throughout his years as a music major, he has constantly been furthering his understanding and craft in music writing. He was fortunate to have had wonderful professors such as Dr. Narducci, for his fine instruction in musical theory, counterpoint and his guidance in compositional methods, Dr. Carter, for a major role in the art of orchestration, and last, but not least, Dr. Rene Ramos, for his immeasurable depth of knowledge and understanding of the history and formal structures of this art form. To date, Jason has over a dozen arrangements and four complete compositions. After graduating in June of 2014 with both his music bachelor of arts and management degrees, Jason is now teaching the Introduction to Music Theory as adjunct professor at La Sierra University. He is also working as the registrar and office manager of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, which is where he teaches flute, guitar, and music theory privately. Jason continues to perform actively as a soloist and with the La Sierra University Wind Ensemble and Orchestra as principal flutist.
